I collaborated with the computer/visual arts teacher to design a social and computer/visual arts assignment. Our focus was to encourage creativity and give students an opportunity for collaboration. Creativity occurred in all stages of the process. Students had to be creative in the planning stages. They were given the task to choose a common children’s fairy tale and come up with ideas on how to make it a parody. They then had to write their own scripts together which takes an immense amount of creativity to create something entirely from one’s imagination. Because it was a humour unit, they were also tasked with coming up with elements of humour both non-verbal and verbal whether it be witty, dark, silly etc. Finally, they then filmed their scripts either on a green screen or a shadow screen which takes creativity not only to create the video but by learning how to adapt one’s vision into something more realistic.

In this lesson students learn about the important role of religious artworks in the early Renaissance in Italy. Through the visual analysis of an early Renaissance altarpiece, they learn about connections between new modes of visual representation and changing religious practice in the Catholic Church. Students research an early Renaissance artist working in Florence who created devotional, religious imagery and write a short paper.

Students explore how an artist emphasized the narrative in a work of art that depicts a single moment from the story. They then write a newspaper article, using visual clues in the painting to imagine how the narrative depicted may have unfolded.

Study of the Canadian Group of Seven
Assignment
1. Students will do and oral presentation about their Group of Seven artist
- Points to include are who, what, where, when, style, types of art, favourite medium of art, how long he belonged to the group,
- Include at least three examples of their art work – books would be awesome (wheatland library, Rossville library, colour printouts from home)
2. Student will complete 2 replicas of their artist. These will be done with water colour, tempra, charcoal or pastel.
3. Students will be prepared to explain the importance of place as given in the above outcome.

The free art lessons on this site are designed for middle and high school students, beginning with art lesson plans for beginning students, through intermediate and advanced students. The lessons cover a wide range of topics in a variety of mediums.

Students learn the value of writing and art in science and engineering. They acquire vocabulary that is appropriate for explaining visual art and learn about visual design principles (contrast, alignment, repetition and proximity) and elements (lines, color, texture, shape, size, value and space) that are helpful when making visual aids. A PowerPoint(TM) presentation heightens students' awareness of the connection between art and engineering in order to improve the presentation of results, findings, concepts, information and prototype designs. Students also learn about the science and engineering research funding process that relies on effective proposal presentations, as well as some thermal conductivity / heat flow basics including the real-world example of a heat sink which prepares them for the associated activity in which they focus on creating diagrams to communicate their own collected experimental data.

Students create a mixed media artwork about an at-risk species using black shapes on a white background. They paint each black shape with small, beadlike circles in a style similar to that of Métis artist Christi Belcourt.
