Students are provided with an understanding of sound and light waves through a "sunken treasure" theme a continuous storyline throughout the lessons. In the first five lessons, students learn about sound, and in the rest of the lessons, they explore light concepts. To begin, students are introduced to the concepts of longitudinal and transverse waves. Then they learn about wavelength and amplitude in transverse waves. In the third lesson, students learn about sound through the introduction of frequency and how it applies to musical sounds. Next, they learn all about echolocation what it is and how engineers use it to "see" things in the dark or deep underwater. The last of the five sound lessons introduces acoustics; students learn how different materials reflect and absorb sound.

This is not just for summer! If students are finding Everfi's Hockey Scholar too difficult - this is a great alternative option.

Each summer, students lose critical math and literacy skills, which can widen the achievement gap among students. To prevent this “summer slide,” EVERFI has partnered with Major League Baseball to develop a continuous and engaging learning experience that prepares students of all backgrounds to enter the next school year on track. The 18-week program, targeted to 4th and 5th graders, unlocks activities at regular intervals and offers rewards for progress and consistency along the way. Students engage with content that reinforces critical math and language skills while enjoying the freedom and motivation of a baseball-themed, game-based learning experience.

Which One Doesn't Belong
Rating

Math puzzles to get students talking about their mathematical thinking. The site provides a collection of shape, number and graph sets. Each activity has four images/numbers, students then need to pick which one doesn't belong. But the trick is this, the puzzles do not have one correct answer. This can lead to interesting conversation and descriptions of what the student notices about the arrangement.

If you think up your own, you can submit them to the site.
