Dialog includes a number of interesting features such as a keyboard with built-in translator, use camera to translate texts in pictures, access translations in offline mode, support for 100 languages, automatic language detection, and more.

Engaging EAL students in their learning involves best practices that are sensitive to the students’ specific needs and provide a safe and inviting environment where they are willing to take risks and involve themselves in their language acquisition. The strategies included here are good teaching practices for all students, including those just learning to speak, read, write and understand the intricacies of the English language.

This guide covers the age range 6 years to 18 years. It also encompasses all students with reading difficulties, including those who have specific learning difficulties (dyslexia) as well as those who have made generally poor progress in reading and may or may not have additional general learning difficulties. Information here can be applied to students from disadvantaged backgrounds, minority groups and to students with reading difficulties for whom English is not a first language. While the full range of literacy involves more than just reading, the focus here is particularly on reading skills: the ability to decode and understand text.
They help students build phonological awareness by segmenting words into sounds or syllables.
They teach students how to count the number of phonemes in the word (not always the number of letters).
They help students better understand the alphabetic principle in decoding and spelling.

Orange Shirt Day and what is now called 'The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is coming up on September 30. Here is a free resource for educators and parents of children learning and participating in Orange Shirt Day. A coloring page can be a simple tool to engage children and gives them an additional way to show their support as they learn about why orange shirt day is so important.
Coloring has been proven to have the ability to help relieve stress, generate mindfulness, engage active listening and help with the processing of emotions. And don't forget, coloring isn't just for kids!

Students will explore five different "Discovery Buckets". These buckets will give them opportunities to practice expressing both their thoughts and feelings. Main Curriculum Tie: English Language Arts Kindergarten Speaking and Listening Standard 6, Speak audibly and express thoughts, feelings, and ideas clearly. We recognize that an increased ability to communicate thoughts and feelings gives children the skills they need in their interactions with others. Acceptance by peers is not only correlated with positive attitudes toward school; it is a powerful predictor of social adjustment throughout life. This lesson helps children understand their emotions and how to appropriately express thoughts and feelings with others.
