This comprehensive consumer health resource provides authoritative information on the full range of health-related issues, from current disease and disorder information to in-depth coverage of alternative medical practices.
Gale in Context: Elementary is a research database for Kindergarten to Grade 5 students. This resource is a credible, reliable and ad-free information source. Students, teachers and parents will find age-appropriate videos, images, biographies, magazine and newspaper articles on popular topics.
Gale in Context: Middle School is a research database for Grade 6 - Grade 8 students. This resource is a credible, reliable and ad-free information source. Students, teachers and parents will find age-appropriate videos, images, biographies, magazine and newspaper articles on popular topics.
This Grade 9 ELA newspaper project can be used as a summative assessment after reading The Absolutely True Diary... by Sherman Alexie. Using Microsoft Word templates, students create a newspaper with a variety of different forms of text and representations.
In this unit, students explore a variety of resources—texts, images, sounds, photos, and other artifacts—to learn more about the Holocaust. Beginning with journal writings and a picture book to introduce the central issues, the unit focuses on student-centered inquiry. Students explore a range of print and non-print resources through extensive online inquiry activities. Progressing from individual work to a group learning project, the unit culminates in publishing the group's findings in topic-based newspapers.
The lesson includes complete lists of picture books, read-aloud books, reference texts, and online sites and collections that allow teachers to customize the activities to fit the available resources and students' specific research interests.
Kids Scoop is News magazine that features standards-aligned activity packs for kids K-5.
Kid Scoop News magazine is available as a free PDF or print newspaper delivered to classrooms. This magazine can be shared with students to read at home or in the classroom. After students have read through the magazine, teachers might have them share out to the class something they learned or had a question about. This could kick off a discussion and might even lead to further research into some of the more interesting topics.
Beyond the magazine, teachers will find dozens of downloadable activities and lesson plans -- some free, some paid -- to slot into lessons. Many of these would work well as ways to kick off or cool down a class period.
