A collection of resources to teach students the 21st century skills they need to be successful in life!
This is a year long school-wide plan to introduce and discuss SECRET skills with your students over the morning announcements and/or in your classroom.
The following are two examples of what has been done in the past in a school in MB.
"The BEST Self-Direction Toolkit is a collection of resources for teachers to use in the classroom for instruction and assessment that focuses on self-direction. The toolkit includes the self-direction rubric, self-direction activities and targeted resources for teachers. All tools are designed by teachers and tested in the classroom."
The kit includes activities, self reflections/assessments, rubrics and more!
This activity makes students aware of how well they are self-managing or regulating.
It ASKS : "Today when you are working, there will be a clock or timer on the SMARTBoard. At random intervals, you will hear a beep or a bell. When you hear the sound, reflect on your behaviour. Are you self-managing?"
Students complete the chart attached to measure their growth and ability to self-manage or regulate.

Students will use the inventory to self assess their skills in:
- time management
- self regulation
- organization
- study skills & test anxiety
Assessment can be used to guide goal setting and explicit teaching of skills.

This is a cross curricular project revolving around the documentary The Social Dilemma. Students will write an essay and create an Action Plan to tackle the issues surrounding Social Media and it's pervasiveness in our lives. The outcomes covered are focused in Social 7, Health 7 and ELA 7.

Star Wars 21st Century SECRET Skills Rubrics.
Strategies for Academic Success accompanies the online first-year University of Saskatchewan Arts and Science course by the same name. The textbook has a reader-friendly format arranged to help you develop the essential skills and provide the information you need to succeed in university.
Student's prepared and read a children's book that demonstrate one of the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People (Grit, Growth Mindset, SECRET skills, 21st Century Skills, Problem Solving, etc). The book was chosen for the student for the 1st round, then students chose their own book for the second round.
Use this kit to give your students a quiz to see if they struggle with organization issues, then teach them how to organize themselves with the information contained.
This is a reflection that students can fill out to self-asses their SECRET 21st century skills as well as look at their strengths and weakness.
