A web page and interactive applet illustrating the properties of a dodecagon (10 sided polygon). The applet shows a dodecagon where the user can drag any vertex to reshape it. User can see that the interior and exterior angles are constant in a regular dodecagon, but vary in an irregular version. Controls allow the display or hiding of the diagonals, and triangles within the dodecagon. The web page lists the properties of a dodecagon including interior angles, exterior angles, sum of exterior angles, area, number of diagonals and number of internal triangles. Links to pages with generalized properties of all polygons. Applet can be enlarged to full screen size for use with a classroom projector. Fairy tale lesson that incorporates choice into the lesson, content, and assignment. Users can easily customize to their own interests and abilities.

We decided it would be fun to make a creative diorama book report. A diorama is the three dimensional re-creation of a scene. They are created inside of a box. The student was to choose a book he/she had recently read and create a diorama using a shoe box. A written report was also part of the book report.

One of the outcomes of Grade 9 English Language Arts requires you to read a variety of information texts including expository essays, historical accounts, news articles, and scientific writing. This project will allow you to make choices about what and how you read. This will also help us to practice a second outcome which requires you to use before, during and after reading strategies.

This lesson is applicable after reading Chapter 2 of the novel "Of Mice and Men" by John Steinbeck. Upon completion of reading Chapter 2, have students close their eyes as the teacher reads aloud the first paragraph. Encourage the students to note all of the specific details that the author inserts into the paragraph and visualize the setting of the novel.
