« La chaîne éducative Cinéma autochtone vise à engager les apprenants dans des discussions sur l’histoire coloniale du Canada et son impact sur les communautés autochtones. Nous vous invitons à découvrir notre collection de films réalisés par des cinéastes autochtones et par des gens qui sont leurs alliés. »

Although this task is fairly straightforward, it is worth noticing that it does not explicitly tell students to look for intersection points when they graph the circle and the line. Thus, in addition to assessing whether they can solve the system of equations, it is assessing a simple but important piece of conceptual understanding, namely the correspondence between intersection points of the two graphs and solutions of the system.

An interactive applet and associated web page defining a circle. The applet shows a circle where the user can drag the center and a point on the circle. The radius line supports the definition that all points on the circle are a fixed distance from the center. The web page has the definitions of all the circle-related objects, such as diameter, chord etc, with links for each. Applet can be enlarged to full screen size for use with a classroom projector. The Circle of Courage is a program based on the Medicine Wheel that integrates traditional Aboriginal ways of knowing, community values, and development. It teaches the importance of four needs for healthy growth and development: Spirit of belonging, Spirit of Mastery, Spirit of Independence and Spirit of Generosity. One example can be found at the government of Manitoba's site.

Students are introduced to several key concepts of electronic circuits. They learn about some of the physics behind circuits, the key components in a circuit and their pervasiveness in our homes and everyday lives. Students learn about Ohm's Law and how it is used to analyze circuits.

Students use the same method as in the activity from lesson 2 of this unit to explore the magnetism due to electric current instead of a permanent magnet. Students use a compass and circuit to trace the magnetic field lines induced by the electric current moving through the wire. Students develop an understanding of the effect of the electrical current on the compass needle through the induced magnetic field and understand the complexity of a three dimensional field system.

Hank takes us on a trip around the body - we follow the circulatory and respiratory systems as they deliver oxygen and remove carbon dioxide from cells, and help make it possible for our bodies to function.

This task shows that the three perpendicular bisectors of the sides of a triangle all meet in a point, using the characterization of the perpendicular bisector of a line segment as the set of points equidistant from the two ends of the segment. The point so constructed is called the circumcenter of the triangle.

An interactive applet and associated web page that show the properties of a circumcircle of a polygon. The applet shows a regular polygon where the user can drag the vertices to reshape it and alter the number of sides. As the polygon is being varied, the circumcircle is shown, passing through all vertices. The text describes two ways to calculate the radius of the circumcircle, depending on what you are given to start. Applet can be enlarged to full screen size for use with a classroom projector. This resource is a component of the Math Open Reference Interactive Geometry textbook project at http://www.mathopenref.com.

An interactive applet and associated web page that demonstrate the circumference of a circle. The applet shows a circle with a radius line. The radius endpoints are draggable and the circle is resized accordingly. The formula relating radius to circumference is updated continually as you drag. Introduces the idea of Pi. The formula can be hidden for class discussion and estimation. See also the entries for circumference and diameter. See also entries for radius and diameter. Applet can be enlarged to full screen size for use with a classroom projector. This resource is a component of the Math Open Reference Interactive Geometry textbook project at http://www.mathopenref.com.

An interactive applet and associated web page that show the definition and properties of the bounding box of a polygon or set of points. The bounding box is used in other entries to find area using the so-called box method. The grid, coordinates and calculations can be turned on and off for class problem solving. The applet can be printed in the state it appears on the screen to make handouts. The web page has a full definition of a bounding box when the coordinates of the points defining it are known, and has links to other pages relating to coordinate geometry and a worked example. Applet can be enlarged to full screen size for use with a classroom projector. This resource is a component of the Math Open Reference Interactive Geometry textbook project at http://www.mathopenref.com.

Students learn that ordinary citizens, including students like themselves, can make meaningful contributions to science through the concept of "citizen science." First, students learn some examples of ongoing citizen science projects that are common around the world, such as medical research, medication testing and donating idle computer time to perform scientific calculations. Then they explore Zooniverse, an interactive website that shows how research in areas from marine biology to astronomy leverage the power of the Internet to use the assistance of non-scientists to classify large amounts of data that is unclassifiable by machines for various reasons. To conclude, student groups act as engineering teams to brainstorm projects ideas for their own town that could benefit from community help, then design conceptual interactive websites that could organize and support the projects.

Concentus provides a full downloadable unit with a teacher and student resource booklet. This unit focuses on citizenship and aims to meet the following goals:Foster Engaged citizens who question, critically examine, advocate, and defend rights and responsibilities embedded in democracy at the local, regional, provincial, national, and global levels.Foster Lifelong learning citizens who continuously strive to understand the dynamics of change in society, and they critically seek new information to make reasoned and unbiased decisions.Foster Citizens with a strong sense of self, community, and place who value and demonstrate a positive commitment to understanding these concepts as citizens, and to the exploration of citizenship responsibilities inherent in these relationships at local, regional, national, and global levels.

In this extension to the "Open Court Reader" unit on "City Wildlife," students look at a still-life painting. They discuss the observation of nature by scientists and artists and explore the symbolism of biological life cycles depicted in a painting.
