There are no more famous Canadian Olympic siblings than Maxime, Chloe, and Justine Dufour-Lapointe. The three sisters stormed onto the world freestyle skiing scene more than a decade ago and captivated the hearts of Canadians as they raced to the top of podiums around the world. It was obvious to their fans that the three sisters had a deep and lasting friendship. The world could see that these women were there for each other through good times and difficult times.

This learning resource tells their story, explains what being close friends involves and allows students to think about what it means to be a good sibling or friend.

Download the complete lesson, featuring the following outcomes:
- Think about what it means to be a good of sibling or friend;

Dance Collaboration

Rating

In the dance craze research project for my Grade 7 Physical Education class there was a large component of collaboration. The students were put into small groups of either 3 or 4 and had to work together to complete the assignment. They needed to collaborate and make sure each individual was on board with the type of dance they were going to do and each do equal amount of work on the project. The collaboration was the largest part of this piece because of the amount to time students needed to discuss and work as a group to complete the assignment and present it to the class. They need some collaboration time outside of the class to practice in order to help teach their peers the steps to the dance as well. This group has a tough time with collaborating with one another, but this activity I would view as a success as most students and groups were able to work together and collectively to finish their project. Each group member completed a peer assessment on each group member to show if each member had done equal amount of work and was a contributing group member and helped the group succeed.

Designing a Game That Involved Offensive and Defensive Strategies
Conditional Remix & Share Permitted

Rating

My plan for my 21st century competency dealt with critical thinking and collaboration in
my Physical Education 9 class. The assignment I had students participate in was in designing a
game that involved offensive and defensive strategies. The students also had to brainstorm
game objectives, physical skills being used, teamwork skill, game rules, penalties, and scoring
system. Before we began developing our games, we looked at the evolution of sport. For
instance, we looked at how volleyball and badminton scoring systems have changes in the past
20 years. We also looked at sports like hockey and football and the rule changes from the early
days of the sport to what we see today. Finally, students developed a game and taught it to the
class. They thought about what worked well and what did not and adjusted their games
according to their findings.

The Digital Gallery Walk: Collaboration on their feet
Rating
0.0 stars

When students create digitally, that doesn't mean they can't interact face to face. The digital gallery walk blends digital and face-to-face learning.

Here's how it works:
1. Students create a digital artifact of their learning.
2. When everyone is finished, students display their work on their screens.
3. Students stand up and leave their devices on their desks.
4. They circulate the room, stopping at their peers’ desks (and devices) to check out their work.

(This could be applied to professional learning as well)

It's that simple. Check out this post for more details!

Do Yoga With Me

"Do Yoga with Me is one of my personal favourite sources for good home workouts, obviously of the yoga variety! Many of their classes are filmed outdoors in beautiful British Columbia, Canada. The level of instruction is top-notch and there are videos that focus on pretty much every part of the body (e.g. hips, hamstrings, back, etc.), so you can target the area that you need to work on most."

Any video with a plus symbol in an orange/yellow circle requires a subscription but all others are free to access. You can use the filters at the top of the page to filter your search.

ArcGIS is a powerful tool for learning in social studies for various reasons. It allows students to tell stories by visualizing, analyzing, and interpreting data related to location and place. This can be incredibly valuable in social studies, where understanding the spatial relationships between historical events, cultural phenomena, and natural resources can help students develop a deeper and more nuanced understanding of the world around them.
