The Literacy Shed is home to a wealth of visual resources that have been curated from YouTube, Vimeo and other sites to meet curricular outcomes in ELA.
The resources can be used in stand alone literacy lessons, can form the basis for a whole Literacy unit or can support literacy units that you already have in place. With the many book based activities using the book alongside the digital resource is recommended.

This is a PeBL based project where students are required to follow / research the NCAA March Madness College Basketball tournament. Each grade's assignment and tasks are based off of the Math Stats and Probability outcomes and indicators. Hands on learning and lots of fun!

So many grade levels and math outcomes covered by various themes such as Lego, Star Wars, Encanto, Minions, Superheroes and many others. The website includes a "Starter of the Day" activity, visuals, games, printables, number talks, word problems and mental math activities.

A gamified resource that teaches students about healthy food, how to make healthy food choices, and how to interpret food labels and advertisements. Each lesson is a 'Mission' where students work in groups to create a Super-Human to defeat villains that are trying to take over the food system.

This resource is all about FLIGHT! Lessons include: Dressing for Altitude, History of Flight, Parts of an Airplane, Principles of Flight, Structures and Materials, Propulsion, Future Flight, Careers in Aeronautics, and Airspace.
This is a great resource for multi-grade classrooms or for students who require adapted levels of materials. There are different lessons for different age groups on the same topics. (Generally, their lessons are levelled K-4, 5-8, 9-12.)

Newsela provides high-interest, printable news articles from a wide range of subject areas. Teachers can adjust the reading level of news articles to meet the needs of students. Within each article, power words are identified. Students can click on these and see the definition in student-friendly language. Newsela also provides writing prompts and questions about the articles. You can sign up for free access to the end of the 2019-20 school year. Although the site is American, there are lots of applicable news stories that align with Saskatchewan curricula and context.

Students will either, in their school, outside, or in their home, find nouns that start with the letter in the appropraite boxes.Students will write down 3 verbs they could act out and write two sentences using a noun and verb together below. Students will draw an object based on the clues/descriptions that are read to them.

PowerPlay Young Entrepreneurs is a highly engaging program that is designed for classrooms ranging from grades 4 to 8. Students have fun exploring their passions, talents and interests as they plan and carry out their own business ventures. The grade 6 students completed their unit of study on principles of flight. As an end of unit project, they were asked to create a working prototype of a flying object. The students were given a couple of examples from the textbook (page 208 & 213) of objects they could create. These examples were given to encourage the students to think of ideas and gear them on the right track. Therefore, they were asked not to use these examples (although the students that had trouble thinking of their own project were able to use them). As a class, we agreed upon the required performance criteria. The students were then given a handout to fill in as they built their prototype. This handout was to be handed in once the project was completed. An assessment rubric was also given. The students were asked to write a paragraph on each of the assessment rubric categories, explaining how their prototype met that particular category. Next the students were given a few classes to work on their prototype. Once completed, the students were asked to give a presentation where they would describe their project and demonstrate it. The project was assessed using the criteria set out by the students and the rubrics in the teacher’s guide.

Smash Boom Best is a debate show for kids and families from the makers of the award-winning podcast, Brains On! Every episode takes two cool things, smashes them together and lets you decide which is best. Our debaters use facts and passion to make their case -- teaching listeners how to defend their own opinions along the way.

This is a cross curricular project revolving around the documentary The Social Dilemma. Students will write an essay and create an Action Plan to tackle the issues surrounding Social Media and it's pervasiveness in our lives. The outcomes covered are focused in Social 7, Health 7 and ELA 7. 

Folkfest is an annual event linked to curricular outcomes for Grade 6. Goals are to improve and refine Folkfest components with the use of “Student Showcase” and various professional development opportunities. Students will be guided into various uses of technology to display and showcase their projects.

Solar System explores the world around Earth, particularly the planets and the asteroid belt. Students will discover interesting facts about each planet, including their orbit and rotation times and the elements from which they are made. They will also learn the order of the planets and be able to compare and contrast them.

This hands-on project is an impactful way to show students how truly immense our solar system is! You get to decide if you want your model to show scale planet sizes or the scale distances between planets. You can combine a planet-size model of one scale with a distance model of another scale. But if you want size and distance to be the same scale, you’ll need to spread your model across at least half a mile!
Specific directions on how to calculate size/distance scales are included.

After completing a pre-assessment survey of their knowledge of electricity, students compare how much energy different types of light bulbs use and relate these to their monthly power bill. They then evaluate the short term economic and carbon footprint aspects of the energy alternatives available.

Students will speak knowledgeably about the current state of biodiversity on Earth, creativity represent their learning through a variety of activities and effectively inform and inspire their peers about the importance of protecting our environment.
