This project is a year long in-depth inquiry project into the Pacific Rim Region and is fully based on the grade seven social studies curriculum. It does not function as a curriculum replacement but as a "vehicle" to learn the suggested concepts and strategies. The difference is that in this type of approach, you have an individual connection to a region. The project will connect to real-world issues by exploring how geographical features, climate, and available resources influence different Pacific Rim countries, both historically and now. Sun West School Division partnered with Junior Achievement Saskatchewan in support of career development competencies of students through a business lens. Grade 8 Career Education Teachers will continue to deliver Junior Achievement’s Dollars with Sense (Gr. 8) program to our students.
Junior Achievement focuses on the pillars of Financial Literacy, Entrepreneurship, and Work Readiness. The programs include combinations of whole class, team, and individual activities. Junior Achievement kits were sent to schools and categorized in our libraries. The materials are very detailed containing necessary resources, student preparation portfolios, and the teacher inspiration guide. The Student Preparation Portfolio consumables have been sent to schools.
As well, Junior Achievement has updated their online portal and created both Teacher-led and Student self-directed modules. These modules can be used alongside the physical kits – lots of options! Course Access Codes for the online portal have been shared with CD LEAD Teachers and Administrators. The access codes are also included in the packages sent to schools. If any support needed,

Students are introduced to the concept of electricity by identifying it as an unseen, but pervasive and important presence in their lives. They are also introduced to the idea of engineers making, controlling and distributing electricity. The main concepts presented are the science of electricity and the careers that involve an understanding of electricity. Students first review the structure of atoms and then learn that electrons are the particles behind electrical current and the motivation for electron movement. They compare conductors and insulators based on their capabilities for electron flow. Then water and electrical systems are compared as an analogy to electrical current. They learn the differences between static and dynamic forms of electricity. A PowerPoint(TM) presentation is included, with review question/answer slides, as well as assessment handouts to practice using electricity-related terms through storytelling and to research electricity-related and electrical engineering careers.
