The mission of the Social Studies Educators Network of Canada is to advocate and build capacity for high-quality social studies education by facilitating networking between educators and engaging with partners across Canada.

We have three main objectives:

To advocate for social studies education across Canada
To facilitate networking and cooperation among social studies educators across Canada
To engage with public institutions, private interests, and non-government institutions in the development and implementation of policies and/or resources related to social studies education across Canada.

This online, facilitated course is designed for middle-school educators wishing to teach global climate change using an inquiry/problem-based approach. Teachers access the course by registering with PBS TeacherLine and enrolling in the course. The course supports teaching global climate change using a problem-solving approach and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) methodology to engage middle-school students and help them understand the causes and effects of climate change and learn about the differences between climate and weather and how actions and nature affect the environment. The course includes pedagogic support for educators who are interested in using Web 2.0 tools when teaching about climate change in the classroom. Enhance content knowledge of climate change and learn how to effectively implement STEM instructional strategies using resources from NASA and WGBH‰Ûªs Teachers‰Ûª Domain.

This online, facilitated course is designed for high-school educators wishing to teach global climate change using an inquiry/problem-based approach. The course focusses on evidence that supports global climate change and how to use NASA data and resources to help high-school students discover mitigations or adaptations to climate change. The course is part of PBS Education's outreach and offerings to educators across the country; it is a 45-hour experience over six weeks and eligible for three graduate credits.

The purpose of this resource section is to provide educators – STEM teachers, subject teachers, and Career teachers – with the tools to help them take students from their initial thinking about careers (i.e., what subjects they like, the type of post-secondary education they are interested in, the general career sectors they may have an interest in, etc.) to a deeper understanding of the variety of careers available and how previous training, on-the-job education opportunities, and personal interests, and a lifelong-learning philosophy, both advance and expand one’s career prospects.

This choice board offers students and families a menu of options for some fun summer learning. There are some attached documents to support the choice board. Have fun! 

Students explore the concept of a sacred place by looking at works of art representing sacred spaces, and studying the California missions. They explore perspective and point of view in both the visual and literary senses. Students create a project poster displaying photos, drawings, and journal writings that incorporate the major themes of California's missions, and use perspective and point of view both visually and in writing.

This lesson for English Language Learners (ELLs) introduces one of the most influential artists of the 20th Century, Salvador Dali. In this lesson, learners will practice reading, listening, speaking and writing. All activities are automatically graded with feedback provided to the learner upon submission.

These activities introduce students to the use of sampling for advertising purposes. They also generates a discussion about how advertisers use gimmicks to get people to buy more of their product. Even young students will admit that they have been induced to buy fast food meals in order to collect all of the toys.

Launched in 1996, Saskatchewan Sage is a news publication specifically designed to serve the Indigenous people of Saskatchewan.

This 1 1/2 hour session will give students the opportunity to participate in a live broadcast with professional artist Heather Clines. Students will learn how artists come up with ideas to create art work and some of the basic ways Cline uses collage in her own work. Students will understand the use of collage as a form of visual art and use the method to create an art work inspired by a Freaky Friday in Saskatchewan.
