Biology Simulations helps students to learn about biology and practice data analysis skills. These simulations allow students to experiment with concepts that may take too much time or too many resources to complete in a traditional science lab setting.
Explore how the code embedded in DNA is translated into a protein. …
Explore how the code embedded in DNA is translated into a protein. Click Transcribe to zoom into the cell nucleus and see the chromosome unravel to expose the strands of DNA. The DNA separates and an mRNA strand is created by matching complementary nucleotides. Click Translate to watch the mRNA leave the nucleus for the cytoplasm and attach to a ribosome. tRNA molecules bring in amino acids and the amino acids are added in the correct order by matching complementary nucleotides. After translation, inspect the protein to see how the amino acid sequence folded.

FlyLab JS is an educational application for learning the principles of genetic …
FlyLab JS is an educational application for learning the principles of genetic inheritance. Users design crosses between female and male fruit flies carrying one or more genetic mutations. They can make hypotheses for the mode of inheritance of genetic traits and test their hypotheses by selecting fruit flies with different visible mutations, mating them, and analyzing the phenotypic ratios of the offspring. Results can be recorded into an online notebook which can be exported as a web page for later use.
With FlyLab JS, it is possible to study multiple generations of offspring, and perform testcrosses and backcrosses. FlyLab JS is a versatile program; it can be used to learn elementary genetic principles such as dominance and recessive alleles, and Mendelian ratios, or more complex concepts such as sex-linkage, epistasis, recombination, and genetic mapping.

Students can practice matching words to the correct definition, and donate rice at the same time.
For each correct answer, the United Nations World Food Programme donates 10 grains of rice to a country in need. How’s that for combining word learning with social goodness? When a student plays, there is a visual display of rice (see image) which is added to a bowl each time the student makes a correct response.
Free Rice includes subject area lists in Geography, Science, Math, and others. It is leveled so students can play at just the right level of challenge for them.

One strand of the DNA is used as a template to create an mRNA copy. This process is called transcription. An mRNA copy needs to be made because DNA cannot leave the nucleus. Protein complexes separate the DNA helix to allow complementary mRNA nucleotides to bind to the DNA sequence. The pairing of nucleotides is very specific. Use the A, U, G and C buttons to place the correct mRNA nucleotide with each DNA nucleotide.

"National Geographic is a trusted resource for all aspects of geographic education. This site has resources for grades K-higher education and the breadth of the resources available cover a wide variety of activities, interactive material, mapping (of course), and guides for instructors. The scope of the site is such that subjects such as arts and music, English language arts, and biology are options along with -ology topics that one would expect to find in a site from National Geographic. The indexing of the site by grades, content types, and subjects allow easy searching through the website." (AASL)

First Nations University has developed a new science teaching resource called the National Science Laboratory Video Lessons for Indigenous Youth. The resource includes a variety of materials that bring together Indigenous knowledge and modern science, such as interviews with elders and knowledge keepers, laboratory manuals, and videos of lab experiments completed by students at Carlton Comprehensive High School in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.
FNU professor and project lead Arzu Sardarli explained that Indigenous knowledge on topics such as heat retention in teepees can be explained using the laws of physics and applied toward house construction today. "It's important not only for Indigenous students, it's very helpful for any student and I hope what we created within this project will be used by mainstream schools, too,” said Sardarli.
The educational materials developed include interviews with Elders and Knowledge Keepers, and laboratory manuals and videos for high school Biology, Chemistry and Physics classes.
