November 2023 Musts

This is a collection of resources that can be used throughout the month of November and beyond.

Veterans’ Week is the week of November 11th and the theme for 2023 is “in the service of peace”.  Indigenous Veteran’s Day is November 8th and Remembrance Day is November 11th. There are many resources for Veteran’s week beyond this collection available. In addition to the Legion Remembrance Contests and other resources included, we encourage you to explore Remembrance Day resources, and resources specifically dedicated to Indigenous Veterans’.  Please visit the Veterans' Week & Remembrance Collection for all resources.

National Child Day is recognized on November 20th and is dedicated to promoting and celebrating the rights and well-being in children in Canada.

Holodomor Memorial Day is recognized on November 23rd, and these resources can support your understanding and teaching of this horrific genocide.

November is also Financial Literacy month. You can find a full Financial Literacy collection to support teaching these life skills throughout November.

If you have a resource others could benefit from (created by you or free online) please consider adding it by clicking "Add Resource" in the right of the home screen.

Adobe Firefly - Free Artificial Intelligence (AI) Image Generator & Suggested Activities
Rating
0.0 stars

This AI Image generator is FREE and:
*Creates great, clean images
*Very easy to use
*Allows you to create in different shapes
*Side panel lets you select options (instead of remembering to type them in your prompt)
*Image watermark makes it clear that images are AI-created (but is very bold)
*Has lots of other AI image tools beyond "text to image" like generative fill, text effects, recoloring and more

(SaskDLC has access to the paid version with no watermark).

Ditch That Textbook Suggests These Activities with AI Images:
💬 Generate images for a comic strip with an AI image generator, then students add speech/thought bubbles in Google Slides or PPT
🗣 Create a "Caption This" activity where students speak for a character in an AI-generated image
📝 Students add AI-generated images about a topic of study to visual notes they're creating
📚 AI generates an image of an alternate ending for a story and students narrate it
📍 Have AI create a map and have students give directions or describe it
✍️ "Reverse caption this": Students write the dialogue and ask AI to create an image for it
❓ What if activity: Students write an alternate story (like the Marvel show, "What if...?") and AI generates an image

Who designed these courses?
"The DL Hub partnered with a talented group of instructional designers who built each project based course. Course designers work as High Tech High teachers, High Tech High Graduate School of Education faculty, and nationally recognized PBL consultants, and curriculum designers. More details about each course designer are available on the about page of each course.

How do I assign a course to my students?
To assign a course to your students, make a copy by clicking "Take With Your Own Group." You'll need to create a free Pathwright account so that you can tweak the course or add elements, and then invite your students to take the course.

Who can see my students' work?
The DL Hub is committed to protecting the privacy of student data. When a teacher makes a copy of a course they have created a private version of that course. Only the teacher and other students enrolled in the course will have access to the data. The agreement with our platform partner details that Pathwright ensures compliance with all applicable federal and California laws and regulations regarding collection and maintenance of student data, including, but not limited to, Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and California’s Student Online Personal Information Protection Act.

Can I use these courses to inspire my own curriculum?
Yes! We hope these courses can serve as a model of deeper learning through distance learning. Feel free to take inspiration from the courses and create your own curriculum that connects students to their learning in meaningful ways."
