October 2024 Musts

October is Agriculture Month, a great time to explore and celebrate the essential role of agriculture in our lives.  Discover numerous cross-curricular kits and free resources from Agriculture in the Classroom, and explore the Canadian Educator's Matrix, which houses hundreds of resources from Agriculture in the Classroom Canada. Dive into our Agriculture Hub to find materials that highlight agricultural education and its impact on our world.

October 21-25 is Media Literacy Week. This is a perfect opportunity to enhance your understanding of media's role in shaping perceptions and making informed decisions. Check out the Media Literacy Skills Collection to find resources.

October 24th is Digital Citizenship Day, emphasizing the importance of responsible online behavior and digital literacy. Explore the Digital Citizenship Collection to find resources that will help guide students in becoming conscientious digital citizens.

Additionally, October 17th to 22nd marks Secret Path Week, an annual event dedicated to honoring the legacies of Gord Downie and Chanie Wenjack. These dates commemorate the anniversaries of Gord Downie’s and Chanie Wenjack’s entering the spirit world. Chanie, just 12 years old, tragically passed away after fleeing Cecilia Jeffrey Residential School and walking along the train tracks for 36 hours on October 22. His story, remembered through Gord Downie’s album Secret Path, continues to resonate and remind us of the importance of reconciliation.

As we move through this month, take time to reflect on these observances and integrate relevant resources into your teaching. If you have any valuable resources to share, please add them by clicking "Add Resource" in the top right of the home screen.
