Rating
0.0 stars

Susan Lambert is joined by Dr. Brittney Bills, educator and recent Science of Reading Star Award Winner to discuss MTSS. Dr. Bills began her journey as a school psychologist for six years before transitioning to the role of curriculum coordinator at Grand Island Public Schools. In this episode, Dr. Bills explains what MTSS is and how it centers on prevention rather than intervention. She talks about the intersection of universal screening data and MTSS and provides advice on evidence-based strategies and techniques to make a positive impact in your classroom. Using examples from her own district, Dr. Bills discusses avoiding burnout, learning to use data, and the process of ongoing improvement.

Story Telling, Story Acting: Introduction, Roll Out, Model Lessons

Storytelling/Story Acting (STSA) is a simple movement based on the work of Vivian Paley. STSA involves children dictating stories to adults, followed by a teacher-facilitated acting out of children’s stories at meeting times throughout the day. STSA develops narrative fluency, the concept of a story, and the opportunity to express emotions and experiences. There is no need for rehearsal or special props and stories can be acted out anywhere. It is however, important to designate a “stage” and develop a routine around STSA.

This is a self reflection document to be used at any point during the year with your students - but used specfically during report card time or three-way conferences. It provides students in kid-friendly language a way of understanding the FASA conditions and how they are able to apply these to their own habits at school. It is a great tool to use and assess during parent, student, teacher conferences. Co-created by Kira Toews and Brenna Siroski

Summer Slugger - Math and Literacy Foundations (Grade Alike Planning GAP Focus)
Rating
0.0 stars

Each summer, students lose critical math and literacy skills, which can widen the achievement gap among students. To prevent this “summer slide,” EVERFI has partnered with Major League Baseball to develop a continuous and engaging learning experience that prepares students of all backgrounds to enter the next school year on track. The 18-week program, targeted to 4th and 5th graders, unlocks activities at regular intervals and offers rewards for progress and consistency along the way. Students engage with content that reinforces critical math and language skills while enjoying the freedom and motivation of a baseball-themed, game-based learning experience.

This can be used throughout the year as extra reinforcement for students.

Sustainability Foundations: Ready to Recycle (Grade Alike Planning GAP Focus)
Rating
0.0 stars

This course is designed for learners in the middle grades, to reinforce responsible citizenship of our world by encouraging them to think sustainably. This sustainability mindset established in our existing Sustainability Foundations course will be further built upon in this course. The learner will complete an introduction to recycling, explore the tradeoffs of mining, refining, and recycling, and then engage in a simulation that requires them to make real-world decisions about using their role as a consumer to promote change.

This course helps students develop strategies for becoming better informed consumers when it comes to recycling. Students will learn about single-stream recycling, the environmental impacts of mining and refining raw materials to be used in consumer goods, and how to make sustainable choices.

Possible additional curriculum connections include Social Studies 6 IN6.3 and DR6.2, depending on extensions made in the classroom.

Grab these free syllable clip cards today! Great for preschoolers and early readers.

The good reasons this skill of counting syllables has shifted down to pre-readers as they begin to make sense of the world of literacy:
- When kids can chunk words into syllables, they can read longer words more quickly, accurately, and fluently.
- Beginning spellers do better when they can break words into pieces.
