An inquiry-based project to map the land in your community. The key concepts in this unit are grounded in Indigenous beliefs of interconnectedness, connectedness, and respect for all things.

The driving inquiry questions for this unit are:
1. How can respect for the land be shown?
2. What do we look for when setting up a camp?
3. What stories or teachings are connected to key locations in and around our community?
4. How has the land around our community changed over time?
5. Who do we share our community’s lands with?

The purpose of the video lesson is to explore how to conduct an effective live interview. The accompanying handout outlines the steps in preparing and conducting a live interview. The self-assessment handout has the student reflect on the interviewing process and set future goals.

The purpose of the video lesson is to outline effective reading strategies that good readers use. They include: predicting, making connections, visualizing, monitoring your own comprehension, determining importance, making inferences, questioning, summarizing and synthesizing. The accompanying handout is a survey in which students reflect on their use of the reading strategies.

This handout outlines how the design elements of a poster, brochure, or advertisement help to set the mood and send a message. Design elements include: color, line, shape, type of lettering and use of space.

The resource offers multiple video lessons for each of the writing traits at the grade 6 level, using the resource "Write Traits Student Traitbook" Grade 6, by V. Spandel and J. Hicks.
The traits include:
- ideas
- organization
- word choice
- sentence fluency
- voice
- conventions and presentation are embedded throughout the unit lessons

These 4 point rubric exemplars were developed to provide a consistent and common resource that aligns with the Saskatchewan curriculum and provide opportunities for transfer of responsibility between educator and student. These rubrics are designed to be edited by educator and student.

Teacher Read Aloud or Class novel study

WHAT IS IT?
The premise is simple; we pick a book to read aloud to our students during a set 6-week period and during that time we try to make as many global connections as possible. Each teacher decides how much time they would like to dedicate and how involved they would like to be. Some people choose to connect with just one class, while others go for as many as possible. The scope and depth of the project is up to you. While there are commonly used such as Skype, Twitter, Padlet, or Flipgrid, you choose the tools that will make the most sense for you. Teachers get a community of other educators to do a global project with, hopefully inspiring them to continue these connections through the year.

WHEN IS IT?
Once a year, starting in early October and running through mid-November. Due to the time commitment, this is only a once a year project, however, two fantastic spin-off projects run at other times; the New Zealand Read Aloud and the French version of GRA, Ecouter Lire le Monde.

This is a year plan created using GAP resources that any teacher can take and use. This is intended for teachers new to teaching Grade Six, but can be used by any Grade Six teacher to offer ideas of what can be used to teach the content of the Grade Six curriculum. 

This writing continuum was created by Kenaston School (Nicole Duley and Cindy Menzies). It has taken the writing outcomes for Grades K-8 and organized them in a scope and sequence. This can be used to track individual student progress through the outcomes and follow the student through the grades to support in the implementation of the PeBL philosophy and the creation of personalized goals.

This document map is meant for students to use and interact with as they move through their ELA courses. It enables them to keep track of the outcomes as they meet them on their personalized journey through the courses.

ROVER (Recommended Online Video Education Resources) is a video streaming service for Saskatchewan teachers and students in the PreK-12 education system. It is managed and maintained by the Saskatchewan Ministry of Education. ROVER is a video-on-demand service that provides teachers and students with the convenience of immediate access to streamed, educational videos that support curricula.

This site also offers all of the curriculum documents for all grade levels.

A self reflection on working memory, time managment, planning & organization, flexible thinking, and self monitoring. 

This is a self reflection document to be used at any point during the year with your students - but used specfically during report card time or three-way conferences. It provides students in kid-friendly language a way of understanding the FASA conditions and how they are able to apply these to their own habits at school. Student's prepared and read a children's book that demonstrate one of the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People (Grit, Growth Mindset, SECRET skills, 21st Century Skills, Problem Solving, etc). The book was chosen for the student for the 1st round, then students chose their own book for the second round.

In many schools, educators are transforming teacher-led parent-teacher conferences in favor of student-led meeting formats that engage students in the process. These conferences can provide powerful opportunities for students to advocate for their own learning.
