Des problèmes mathématiques stimulants qui méritent d'être résolus.

Le nom "Open Middle" peut sembler étrange pour un site web sur les problèmes mathématiques. Cependant, il fait référence à un type très spécifique de problème que nous essayons d'encourager ici. La plupart des problèmes sur ce site ont :

un "début fermé", ce qui signifie qu'ils commencent tous par le même problème initial.
une "fin fermée", ce qui signifie qu'ils se terminent tous par la même réponse.
un "milieu ouvert", ce qui signifie qu'il existe plusieurs façons d'aborder et finalement de résoudre le problème.

Les problèmes du type "Open Middle" nécessitent généralement une profondeur de connaissance plus élevée que la plupart des problèmes qui évaluent la compréhension procédurale et conceptuelle. Ils soutiennent les normes communes de l'État et offrent aux étudiants des occasions de discuter de leur réflexion.

As students proceed through the lessons, more story groups are available for reading aloud. In the first story groups, the language is quite controlled. In later story groups, after students have mastered a large percentage of the phonics patterns of English, the language increasingly resembles the language of ordinary texts the student will see at school or in the library.

For residential school survivor Phyllis Webstad, the severing of the threads connecting her to family, community, and culture began in 1973, when the beautiful orange shirt she wore to her first day of school was stripped from her and never seen again. The removal of the orange shirt was the first of a series of destructive methods enforced to deplete her sense of self-worth, erase her culture, and suppress her spirit. Her story is just one of the experiences described by countless survivors, but many others did not live to tell their own story. Intergenerational experiences rooted in the trauma inflicted through residential schools and other forced-assimilation policies continue to ripple through communities today...."
