The task was for the students to design a pillow, create their own patterns, and then sew the pieces together accordingly. Students then self evaluated their pillows and reflected on what they could have done to improve. Part of the assessment was class time used as well. Some of the projects turned out incredible. You try to encourage them to pick designs that are both difficult enough, as well as not too difficult.

Summary For my artifact, I incorporated the multiple intelligences and creativity in the post-assignments for The Secret Lives of Sgt. John Wilson. Before reading the novel, I had students take the multiple intelligences test at http://www.bgfl.org/bgfl/custom/resources_ftp/client_ftp/ks3/ict/multiple_int/ind ex.htm After this, students had a better understanding of their strengths in the different intelligences. From here, I introduced some of the projects to the students and I got input from them about possible projects that we could do which would fit under the various intelligences. I made it mandatory that students choose three projects, each from a different intelligence. I suggested that they choose assignments from the categories in which they scored highly on the multiple intelligences test, but I left the final decision up to them which assignments they would ultimately choose. I made sure to give students the assignment details before reading the novel, so in that way they were able to read with a purpose, keeping the requirements of the assignment in mind.

Slow Reveal Graph (#slowrevealgraph) is an instructional routine that promotes sensemaking about data. This highly engaging routine uses scaffolded visuals and discourse to help students (in K-12 and beyond) make sense of data. As more and more of the graph is revealed, students refine their interpretation and construct meaning, often in surprising ways. This routine increases access for students without sacrificing rigor or engagement.
You will find all types of graphs for all ages of learners from elementary to high school.
Here are the steps: - It starts with a graph that has been stripped of context: its numbers, its labels, its title. - The teacher facilitates a discussion around what students notice and wonder. (The slides give discussion suggestions) - Then another slide is revealed. - Students identify what information is new. - Then another slide is revealed. - Again, students identify what information is new (the title) and discuss how this changes their understanding of the graph. - As more slides are added, more insight into this data representation is revealed.
The introductory page for the graph also offers more information about the context for this graph, other content connections, and paired texts for students to explore.
