A wealth of online personality tests for free. These may be some of the tests you wish to consider doing with older students as part of their learner profiles. Consider doing the Jungian Scales/Myers Briggs. The brain dominance, temperament quiz and memory test are also very interesting.

Operating Systems: Crash Course Computer Science #18
Rating
0.0 stars

So as you may have noticed from last episode, computers keep getting faster and faster, and by the start of the 1950s they had gotten so fast that it often took longer to manually load programs via punch cards than to actually run them! The solution was the operating system (or OS), which is just a program with special privileges that allows it to run and manage other programs. So today, we’re going to trace the development of operating systems from the Multics and Atlas Supervisor to Unix and MS-DOS, and take at look at how these systems heavily influenced popular OSes like Linux, Windows, MacOS, and Android that we use today.

My artifact this year was teaching a Guided Math unit with my Grade 7 class. I had my students
work together with similar abilities to achieve full learning potential. My supports and guidance while doing this unit was other teachers in our school who are already implementing Guided Math in their classroom. Students collaborated well within their groups and were happy with the process and their individual results.

Opportunities to Address Computational Thinking in the Grades 1 to 6 Mathematics and Science Curricula
Rating
0.0 stars

"Computational thinking is a way of solving problems, designing systems and understanding human behaviour by drawing on the concepts of computer science. Incorporating a broad set of problem-solving processes that represent an entry point for new ways of thinking are applicable in computer science and non-computer science contexts. Students at all grades can be engaged in computational thinking to support the learning of coding. While many teachers have already incorporated computational thinking into their classroom instructional and assessment activities, the Ministry of Education has developed this document to support teachers in explicitly connecting computational thinking to specific outcomes in grades 1 through 6 mathematics and science."

Optimistic October - Happiness Calendar
Rating

"Especially when things are feeling a bit tough, it can help to set some goals. Making goals achievable and ensuring that you have a few short term as well as longer term, more ambitious goals helps us feel we're making progress. It doesn't matter if your goal for the day is something really small, the important thing is to give yourself the opportunity to feel like you've achieved something and to celebrate that! This month's calendar is full of ideas to help you think about how you can put this into practice."

You can get daily notifications and reminders for the happiness calendar right to your phone! Search "action for happiness" in the Apple and Google Play store to add the app to your phone or device!

Oral Language Ideas and Activities

Oral language provides a foundation for communication of ideas and intelligent conversation, and the development of other language skills. Before students achieve proficiency in reading and writing, oral language is one of the most important means of learning and of acquiring knowledge.
Things to consider when selecting words to teach:
•Teach words that are central to the concept students must learn.
•Teach only words students do not already know.
•Teach students to use context clues, when available.
•Teach only a few words at a time so meaning is retained.
•Relate new words to previously learned words.
•Provide multiple exposures to words.

"Orange Shirt Day was launched in 2013 to call attention to 165 years of residential school experiences (1831-1996). For residential school survivor Phyllis Webstad, the severing of the threads connecting her to family, community, and culture began in 1973, when the beautiful orange shirt she wore to her first day of school was stripped from her and never seen again. The removal of the orange shirt was the first of a series of destructive methods enforced to deplete her sense of self-worth, erase her culture, and suppress her spirit. Her story is just one of the experiences described by countless survivors, but many others did not live to tell their own story. Intergenerational experiences rooted in the trauma inflicted through residential schools and other forced-assimilation policies continue to ripple through communities today...."

Orthographic Mapping is the process of forming letter-sound connections
in order to combine and recall the spelling, pronunciation, and the
meaning of words. It is the mental process we use to permanently store
words for immediate, effortless retrieval. Orthographic mapping is a skill
that develops from phonemic awareness and grapheme-phoneme
knowledge.
