The games are geared towards elementary and middle school students.

The content and games for this website were created with these goals in mind:
1) To add sound and visual effects to make learning fun and more memorable.
2) To design games with many difficulty levels so that players will continue to be challenged no matter how far they progress.
3) To provide games that will exercise players' brains.

In Pursuit of Adventure: The Fur Trade in Canada and the North West Company is a scholarly research site, which illustrates and documents, in part, the heroic age of the fur trade in Canada by examining the exploits of the North West Company and other Montreal-based fur trading companies at the end of the eighteenth and the beginning of the nineteenth century. The story of the North West Company is closely tied to the evolving economic, geographic and political history of Canada and Quebec, especially after France seceded Quebec to Great Britain in 1763. At the core of this site are the full texts of thirty-eight manuscripts that are known collectively as the Masson Papers and cover the period ca 1790-1820. The patrimonial importance of these diaries is of the first order and provide important insights into the history of the North West Company and the fur trade in general.

The National Hockey League (NHL) and the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) have partnered to launch the Future Goals program, a North-American initiative that provides K-12 students with STEM education. EVERFI’s Hockey Scholar course, with both a math and science edition, leverages highly interactive gameplay and the sport of hockey to reinforce key concepts like scientific thinking and data analysis, exposing students to foundational STEM concepts through real-life applications.

The Pass - Students measure and find patterns between angles lying on a straight line, by setting up a pass that bounces off the boards and discover the Law of Reflection based on their data. The Shot - Students explore the interaction between applied force and frictional force and use this knowledge to hit specific targets on the ice.

The Skate Blades - Students help players stop on a certain target based on the radius of hollow of their skate blades, and use this data to figure out the correlation between radius of hollow and stopping distance. We’ve seen and discussed the ways in which the rapid pace of technological change has affected the media literacy landscape, and it’s clear that change isn’t slowing down. How will those changes affect the future of media literacy? How can we make the skills we’ve discussed over this course transferable to future media & technology?

This week we are exploring alternative energy sources. We'll look at how biomass can be burned as a fuel source, how hydrogen can be used in a fuel cell to generate electrical power, and how nuclear fission provides power to the grid. We'll also discuss how nuclear fusion might someday do the same without any radioactive waste.

It's time to go Back...to the Future. By which I mean, we're going back into the past to talk about Futurism. Which seems like it would be cool, but it was started by this terrible guy Martinetti, who also wrote the Italian Fascist manifesto. He was just the worst, but, at least he was the worst in a way that makes a pretty compelling video.
We'll also check in with the Russian theater, and learn about generally nicer Futurist Vsevolod Meyerhold, who also was vey influential in constructivism. So get ready to fire up the meaning machine and learn!

On June 10, 2024, the Sun West School Division Grade-Alike Planning Team hosted a Share Out Day in which they presented their collaborative projects and provided links to all resources explored throughout the year. Endeavor is a first-of-its-kind interactive program designed for exploring STEM careers for middle school students. This STEM curriculum for middle school is built to empower learners with the knowledge they'll need to discover their career pathways.

The STEM lesson plans for middle school provided in this course enable learners to engage with interactive content that reinforces key STEM skills while discovering some of the exciting STEM opportunities that await.
